I love BBC3 and BBC4 with the varied and compelling documentaries that are regularly on.
I'd pay £500 a year for all the channels to be commercial-free and high quality programming. I haven't watched a show on ITV in years, everything it broadcasts is banal dross.
And for me, I'd pay £0 a year because I don't watch BBC programmes.
So why not BBC let us have this choice - i.e. you pay £500 and I pay £0?
Because they know the majority of the community will NOT pay them and therefore will never change the current system to allow the consumer to have a CHOICE.0 -
It's a matter of opinion.
Why should people have that choice you mention, given that people don't have a choice over the billions wasted on illegal & misconceived wars & all sorts of other government expenditure. This is not to justify one wrong by another wrong, but to point out we live in a 'representative democracy' and have to accept some unpopular consequences of that. I'm sorry you find it so unfair, but I don't object to the TV licencing arrangement.
I really don't know how there is representative democracy in the licensing fee when (1) we both have never voted on whether we want a licensing fee and (2) we both have never voted on any increase of the licensing fee each year? It has never been a major issue compared to the other state issues (e.g. wars, education, health).
To you, BBC license fee equates to government spending on defense, health and education.
To me, BBC license fee cannot never be equated as defense, health and education - why? because we don't have a license fee for newspapers.0 -

It tends to be people who have connections with the BBC who use Health, defence and eduction as a defense. Only a complete moron would try comparing those with a TV Broadcaster who enjoy's taking the public for granted.
The sooner this dinosaur is put out of its misery the betterBecause they know the majority of the community will NOT pay them and therefore will never change the current system to allow the consumer to have a CHOICE.
Unfortunately the liberal/left who force the majority to fund the BBC want it changed to an internet tax because less people are watching TV0 -

You're awfully bitter and twisted about this issue. I wonder what your motives behind it are.......Neigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

So you say. Seemed eminently fair and balanced to me.
Marxists and parasites love the bbc because it's a stronghold of both. It should be destroyed. If it were really as wonderful as its small but noisy group of supporters claim they could spend their own money to create a new one for themselves.0 -
Well, I'm going to increase the support for the BBC by one. I love the BBC, if only for the fact it produces the finest radio in the world - surely undeniable - and one of the best online services as well. And all without advertisements.
I think that the 50p or so a day is an absolute bargain for what you get.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

I'm not the one forcing the majority to pay for my biased & corrupt broadcaster Lurkio. The BBC remind me of the Nazi’s in the way that they force biased news on people and then send the SS (TV Licensing) around if you have a problem with it. You have the nerve to call me bitter and twisted but I'm the one who believes the public should have the right in watching true FTA TV without fearing the mighty BBC coming around threatening them with fine's & then locking them up
 :rolleyes:0 -

Another opinion put across as a fact as you'd expect from the BBC
Oh and notice he's forgoten my post where I've pointed out the BBC has pushed the internet services because they want an internet tax!
me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me, me is just about the BBC mentalityI think that the 50p or so a day is an absolute bargain for what you get.
It's £136.60 (this year) and that's because a minority like YOU wish to force the MAJORITY into subsidising what YOU want.0 -

no you're not - that's the government

Opinion put across as fact, anyone?
You have the nerve to call me bitter and twisted
That's how you come across
It just seems odd that you get really heated about this one issue, which I would probably class as a relatively minor one when all is put in to perspective. Everyone everywhere is 'forced' to pay for things that they may/will never use. It bothers some and not othersNeigh, neigh, and thrice neigh

no you're not - that's the government
Because that too has sad liberal/lefties running it who believe they know better than the Majority. The fact that you are now trying to pass the buck just proves my point.Opinion put across as fact, anyone?
You like the BBC therefore the truth and facts can't mean much too you
caugh Balen Report caughThat's how you come across
Hey when you are forced to subsidise my cable bill by threat of fines and prison then you can give an honest opinion Mr I want your moneyIt just seems odd that you get really heated about this one issue, which I would probably class as a relatively minor one when all is put in to perspective. You class it as minor because you are happy with everyone contributing towards what YOU happen to like. YOU aren't honest enough to just admit you want this thread to disappear so people don't start asking awkward questions about your employer0
