End of Tax year work

hey everyone.

I am due to finish my holiday job on 4th April and so i will technically end employment before the end of tax year 2007-2008. Will i be able to claim the tax i have been over charged for this job under my claim for 2007-2008 tax back?

OR

since i wont actually get paid for these hours to mid-end april will this mean it is forced into tax year 2008-2009, meaning i have to wait a whole year to get it back....

Hoping you can help as last year i finished a similar job on 14th April and since this missed tax cut off date i am still waiting to even claim my £150 rebate (never mind get that money!)

Hope you can help!!

Sorry tax under paye is due when paid not necesaarily when earnt. So unless your employer will pay you off when you leave you will have to wait till next year. However if they give you a P45 you might be able to get it back at the next job in 08.09.

Just out of interest why did you pay tax , you suggest it is a holiday job and if you are a student you can sign a P38S so no tax due!

i pay tax since its my second job.

My tax situation is very complicated (this year i will have 4 p45s and 2 p60s to send in as proof that i am owed tax back).

They wont pay me until mid-late april so looks like another long year of waiting to get it back- what a pain!

also since i am returning to same job in july i think they'll keep me on as 'permenant' meaning no p45. In the case of this will i definatley get a p60?

I dont know why you think you need to wait until the end of the tax year to sort out your tax. If you get yourself on the correct code numbers during the year, you wont have all this hassle.

    In reply to Fengirl.

I already have my tax codes sorted between 3 jobs.

Basically what the sitaution is that my last p45 (which will designate the code for this easter holiday job) may not be processed in time. also since its end of tax year it may be messed up further

Plus i am due money back from before the inland revenue split my tax between my jobs. This year i am due £250 back so far + whatever i am taxed on this job

    thanks for the above link...

Its made it clearer but am so annoyed as found out today that instead of being paid tomorow (when i was MEANTY to be paid) my first payment from my employer will not be until at least next thursday (their fault)

This means that i wont have 'technically' been emplyed by them until tax year 2008-2009 and so another year of waiting for money back!
