Success with Lowells - what now?

Some time ago I posted about some nasty HBOS debts of my DH's that had come out of the woodwork that I knew nothing about which were now being handled by Lowells...I was wisely advised to submit a CCA and see what happened from there. I did this and after some letters backwards and forwards they have just written to me to say that after contacting the original creditor they are not able to provide the requested documentation and they will not be in touch again and have said they have returned the account to "their client". Does this mean that the debt is now written off or will someone else be in touch about it in the future? Also, are Lowells now responsible for removing the account from his credit files or do we have to wait for them to drop off?

Many thanks to everyone who has advised me on these matters, you have helped us more than you can ever know.

The debt is not written off. As a CCA has not been provided, the debt is not enforcable, so you just need to wait until it becomes statute barred - then you can tell anyone that chases it after this to politely naff off.

The debt is still outstanding so will eventually just drop off the credit report.
