Cleaning: Stardrops vs. Homemade cleaners?

Hi all,
I've been using Stardrops for years - my mum used to use it for EVERYTHING way back when I was little
Lately, I've been considering making my own cleaning products using OS ingredients like borax, bicarb, white vinegar etc., but I'm not sure how this would stack up in the cost/effectiveness department.
I'd love to hear your opinions on it

You really shouldn't mix cleaning stuff - just in case of any adverse chemical reactions. The obvious example is bleach, which could release its chlorine as a gas.
However, having said that, certain combinations - the universal Stardrops spray of one-third Stardrops, white vinegar and water, for example - are tried and tested. Mine hasn't fizzed out of the bottle, eaten its way through it or evolved into a new lifeform. The components don't react - it is just an aqueous solution of the other two.
For certain jobs, however, you do need something more specialised. I am currently working on the limescale deposit around the base of the kitchen mixer tap with kitchen paper soaked in neat white vinegar. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I mix water, bleach and washing up liquid into a spray bottle. I probably shouldn't (should I? I have no idea) but I have a white sink and white worktops so I have to and it works really well and I've been doing it for years and I'm not dead yetBulletproof0

Oh and I have never seen a stardrop in my whole life.
Am I about to be kicked off OS for admitting that?Bulletproof0 -
Oh no, I didn't mean to mix the Stardrops with! I meant what would make my cleaning cheapest and most effective...a job lot of Stardrops or making my own cleaners with bicarb, vinegar etc0
