:hello:
I just wondererd if it was at all possible to feed a family of 5 on £30 a week including extras like milk and bread??
There is me, dh, 2 ds (4 1/2 and nearly 3 year old) and dd 6 weeks.
This doesnt need to include milk for baby as we bulk buy for month when get child benefit!! But does need to include nappies, we get tesco nappies so not too expensive!!
My sons love fruit and go through alot of it.
I'm not a great fan of meat i only eat pork or gammon!!
Husband is only home for dinner on 3 days of the week, when he is home we have proper meals like a roast or casseroles. On days when he isnt here me and boys just have simple things like ommletes or rice and veg! But its lunches that i get stuck for and that seems to be where all our money goes!!
Any ideas will be great!!
Thanx

what about making some soup for your oh you can bulk make it and then freeze it send it with some bread! and the kids what about crackers with filling or pitta bread or wraps something different and you can fill with what suits you all! where meals are concerned do a late shop one night and get the reduced veg etc these will be fine if u make something with it the same day and that can also be frozen! Remember to bulk out meals with veg n lentils and fill them up with bread! also another filling thing we have for dinner in a rush is cheese toasties these are so filling a cheap loaf of bread and block of cheese! Hope this helps Ash x0

Take off the nappies cost, then you know what you have left for everything else.
You could try speaking to your local pork butcher who may be able to do a good deal on a bulk buy when it comes to pork/gammon.One day I might be more organised...........

As your children eat a lot of fruit I'm wondering if you have a local market (an ordinary street-market, not a farmer's market)?
Many street-markets sell big bowls of fruit for £1 and they work out quite a bit cheaper than buying from supermarkets.
Edited to say: and if not, do you have an Aldi nearby? They do fruit&veg specials on pre-packed stuff for 49p. The stuff available at this special price varies by month, there are 6 products on at this price at any one time - however last time I was there it included had red apples (nice quality Braeburns, 6 in a pack), red grapes, and oranges.
In fact (edited again) it looks like it's still on the same set: http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/product_range/4862.htmOperation Get in Shape

Why don't you invest in some old fashioned terry nappies? You will instantly scrap the cost of disposable nappies. You can get a grant to buy them in some areas. Washing powder need not be expensive if you get Lidl or own brand. At this time of year they dry quickly and for free on the line. Once you get in the habit they are just about as quick.
It's real nappy week soon so there might be some promotions in your area.
