....... OH won't touch pizza if it has tomato on the base

I'm not too keen on pizza because of the tomatoey sauce on them - but have you thought about doing a pizza using a garlic butter on the dough and THEN the topping. This is what I do at the pizza counter in ASDA where I ask them to make one up for me.

The other thing I would recommend for you and A - check out the 'whoopsie cabinets' in your ASDA - they very often have packs of fresh fish (the ones in the silver bags from the fish counter). I'm not sure about your nearest branch, but in ours there are usually lots of salmon fillets, tuna in lime, sea bass, red mullet (I know that because I always go through them looking for trout for my OH). These can all be bought and then frozen when you get them home. Ours often has mussels, calamari, prawns and scallops as well - but the only thing we would use from those is the scallops which are ALL MINE (OH doesn't like them)!

    A is gay (and I'm a girl)

    So?

Anyway, when I said "get him on board" with the OS-ing, this could just be understanding the pressure he currently puts you under, unintentionally I'm sure, to keep up with him.

The last post about the ASDA "Whoops!" shelves (For those who are thinking that this thread has reached levels of surrealism usually only seen in The Money Savers Arms, their reduced stuff has little labels on it, saying, "Whoops! We ordered too much") has given me another idea.

Whenever I'm rummaging through these, I am looking for things that give me what I call a "Ready, Steady, Cook" moment. So, why don't you both do what you both do best? You shop, he cooks.

To slightly misquote "Casablanca" (I love that film), "I think this (could be) the beginning of a beautiful friendship".

So unfortunatley FZwanab's suggestion we should become a couple (thus reducing the compexity of who I cook for, & ergo my food budget!!) is a non starter :D I know it was said in jest by FZ, but it did make me laugh at the thought.

That's a good point Stephen, thank you. I am going to explain I'm reducing my food budget, & also tap into his chef's knowledge about new recipes I can try.

I think i would prefer that the other way round ;) lots of lovely expensive ingredients that I can create with! I don't think A would like to have to cook every single day.

Olliebeak - "whoospie cabinets" :rotfl: brilliant! Thanks very much for the suggestion, shamefully I don't even know where they are in my local Asda :o but I will definitely check in there for fish next time.

However, I have made a start..... last night it was my turn to cook. I decided to make a chilli (although not my fave) and see if I could make it (i) tasty enough for us both and (ii) cheaply. I used an 80p pack of small mince, bulked it out with lots of beans and some veg, added herbs & spices and it was very nice. I managed to make 4 meals out of it... dinner for the 2 of us last night, lunch today & a spare portion now in the freezer for any night I may have only myself to cater for. So, I am getting there, one step at a time.

Thanks to everyone for their input, if I can do it anyone can :)
Proud to be a moneysaver :)

My comment was also somewhat "tongue in cheek", hence the Smiley. God knows, I'm in no position to advise on relationships. That doesn't stop me, though.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Have a look at Gingham Ribbons' Vegetarian meal planning thread - none of it includes meat.
