stafford railway mortgage

Hi, sorry if this has been asked before but nothing came up when I searched. The Stafford Railway building society seems to have a terrific mortgage deal on. 5.99% variable with no repeat no fees or early payment penalty.

Anyone any experience of this or know if there are conditions like only available to locals etc?

I don't know about this particular mortgage, but I do know that they have always been very competitively priced. They are a very small building society with low overheads and therefore keep their costs down. They've won the What Mortgage award (not sure which one) several years in a row. I don't think they restrict their products to locals only but the best thing to do would be to phone them and ask. I haven't got any accounts with them, and I don't work for them, but do live locally and they seem to have a good reputation with people we know that do use them. If they did an offset account, I'd certainly use them!

Not a lot of help I'm afraid, but I think that the no fees, no early repayment stuff is accurate.

I have friend lives in Stafford and just asked him also. Has it ever figured in Martin's tips do you know?

Don't know to be honest, I've never really looked at mortgage tips because we're on a fixed rate offset with first direct that we're really pleased with. But as I say, they do seem to have a good reputation locally, so is probably worth phoning them - they only have about a dozen staff, so you'll not get passed from pillar to post!!
