Hi there
I have a gazillion (ahem slight exageration
) i have a lot of books that i wish to sell because they are just takking up a lot of room
I know my options are amazon or green metropolis
I just wondered which one earns you the most ?
I know green metropolis pays you £3.00 per book you sell but the books are going to costs £1.09 to send
With amazon you have to match what other peoples price are so if someone is selling your book for 50p then you have to match it to get a sale but do you get money for postage ?
all opinions welcome thanks :-)

Hi misspixierocktastic
I prefer Amazon and have sold quite a few over the last couple of years. What price you get rather dependes on the type of book. If it's non fiction you tend to do better. Text books etc go quite well as do out of print books. I don't list books if the lowest price is under £1.50. The advantage with Amazon over ebay is that you don't pay to list. You only pay fees if you sell your item.
I've sold a few on greenmetropolis but not made as much as Amazon. Check Amazon lowest price first. It hasn't made me rich but it has given a little extra.

It depends on the price you're going to sell the books for. I've sold a lot on both, but I won't list anything for less than about £2.50 on Amazon (or less than about £5 for a heavy book) - it's just not worth it to me after the fees. So I would put the cheaper ones on Green Metropolis. I've made a profit of about £1.50 or £2 from some books on Green Metropolis that everyone else is listing for 1p on Amazon, so it can be more worthwhile. But these days I usually can't be bothered with selling cheap books at all, so overall I prefer Amazon, where you can make a decent amount on the pricier ones.
Amazon pays you £2.75 for postage, but fees come off that - I think you get about £2.30-ish after fees. With Green Metropolis you don't get a separate postage credit for a normal sized book, but you only need to post second class. Plus you can usually charge extra postage for heavier books.0 -
Thanks for that :-)

Many people make this mistake and come off quite badly as a result. You don't have to be the cheapest to get a sale often people will skip the lower priced offerings for many reasons. What is best to get a sale is to accurately describe the condition of the book and to price sensibly.
There are many sellers on amazon who not only benefit from a pro-merchant account where they pay a monthly flat fee, rather than a 80p fee per sale. There are also many who have contracts with royal mail meaning the can post items a lot cheaper than the majority of sellers.
It's important to calculate the weight of a book and how much the postage will be (it goes up next week!) before deciding on the price. On the last screen before confirming a listing is a breakdown of costs and details of how much you will recieve on selling at that price.
I'd advise you to have a read of the very comprehensive thread on amazon selling which is on the ebay boards here.Do You Twitter?
