Store & Stock managers aren't being cut two 15 hours a week, there work load is actually being increased. In my store we are not reducing normal staff's hours because were finding with the closure of an index store near us we are taking a lot more money. The Changes are only affecting Sales Manager's and team leaders.
  • No Argos is not cutting any hours at the moment because it is getting busier due to the closure of Index. It's becoming a challenge for the Stock managers to try and balance what items to get more off and what to get less off because once an item starts going Out of Stock and other stores are slow, they try and order as many of the item as possible for their store.

This year Argos are sending more of their stuff back to the manufacturers as they are running out of space and they do not seem to bothered about RO that much this year.

By the way if you want a Christmas tree from Argos, you might as well start purchasing them now as they are already stocking them up. Be warned though because if you leave it too late, many of the trees will be Out of Stock because once demand rises and more and more stores wanting the trees, it is likely they will be OOS for a while once it starts nearing Christmas.

Stock manager's dont really control what comes in to the stock room they just have to make sure the delivery gets away on time and keeps counts up 2 date etc...,

it's all created by sales data. Sale 1 get 2 more sent in..... If an item is oos then a demand keeps growing until the warehouse has stock to send in.
  • I do not think that would be realistic because if you sold one and ordered 2 in then the system would continue doing so until there was no space to keep the item. The Stock Manager (although the system does it by itself) has to check and I do know that he/she orders which items are needed most and less of what is not because on the rare occassion you sold an item which is not normally sold, there would be no use in ordering many more because the system may think that they could sell 5 in a week when in reality they only sold 1 in a couple of months.

That has happened the system sends loads in but they dont sell. Then finally you get a report which tells you to send loads back to the warehouse. eg. PS2 game we had 76 in stock but had actually only sold around 6 in two and a half months. At the moment we've got 90 tower fans in stock but we havent sold any due to the weather. but because when we had the last hot spell we sold loads and we ran out and people still wanted them it creats a demand and that demand stays there for quite a while.
