I am kind of signed up with Universal Extras but they do charge £10 upfront, so I did not go through with the final bit. I also would love to do this. Anyone know of any opportunities in Leeds/Manchester? I'm well up for it.
  • I found this site starnow on this board somewhere extras, tv,mags + jobs. Apparently to apply for a job I have to pay to register on the site. In the small print it says a one off payment then monthly installments but I can't find the price unless I register, has anyone used this, if so how much is it?
A bit reluctant as I need to earn money not pay for a job iyswim.

i have just registered at www.starnow.com yesterday for FREE.
reading the terms and conditions i found it is FREE to register BUT to get the best out of it and make your profile public to employers searching for extra's you have to PAY(either)-

    £4.99/month
6 months (billed in an easy pay,ent of £29.94)

    £6.99/month
3 months (billed in an easy payment of £20.97)

    £10.99/month
1 month (billed in an easy payment of 10.99)

I came on www.moneysavingexpert.com (forums) to see if people that are paying on starnow on here thought it was worth the money. when i have done more research i will be back with the results for you.
  • thanks for this heres hoping xx

I signed up to www.filmextras.co.uk and used a promotional code from a friend to claim free membership for 180 days just use the code 180DAYS when asked on signing up and pay nothing for 180 days site seems to have lots of interesting jobs and takes no commission if you find some work.:D

This has been a very interesting thread - I've always longed to do something like acting and have never had the bottle - now I haven't got anything to lose! (apart from a few hours sleep!):j so I'm going to have a bash at getting listed with an agency.

  • Yeah go for it guys, Im signed up to 2 agencys at the minute, Universal Extras, and 2020 casting, only been offered one job so far and unfortunately as it was offered to 5 other people at the same time i was too late in replying, on the subscription note, dont pay any upfront fees or sign up to any sites where you have to pay first, a proper agency should find you work and then take a percentage of your wage, around the 12-15% is what i was told by the agency im with, Although if your wanting proper acting roles its somewhat difficult to find an Acting Agency to take you on in my experience, they are very picky in who they want on their books. Good luck and enjoy
  • I have been doing this work for 8 years. Its not worth it anymore. Apart from the Production companies ripping you off on fees, and the Agents taking up to 2 months to pay you, you will end up in debt!

Another thing you should know is that the Bookers in the Agents that give the work out, they give priority to their friends, partners & their favourites, the latter being the !!!!-lickers & 'Lovey' types! Believe me, this all goes on, if you are a groveller you will go far, but if your are strong minded & like to speak your mind you will get no where! Especially with Ray Knight Casting & Twenty-20, they both have their A List Extras. Certain Bookers are also up their own !!!!!!, they think they are Gods because the huge majority of people dare not say Boo to them, for fear of not getting any work for 8 weeks! Its all very childish, but then so are most of the people in this business, especially those that pretend they are or have been something that they are not, its very clicky-clicky & back stabbing.

So get a real job, dont bother with Extra work, after all the deductions, travel, long hours, early starts, tons of boredom, then you have to pay your own tax, ask yourself, am I happy with £30.00 at the end of the day?

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
  • I am also interested in doing this. I've done promotions and modelling and have been in a video shoot for a music video which was thoroghly enjoyable.

If you're doing your own tax don't forget to claim your mileage back, it's up to 40p per mile for the first 10,000 miles
