hi all,
hoping for some advice pleeeease!!
OH treated me to a wedding mag today and it had a lovely idea of a "village fete" theme for a wedding. we are getting married in a converted barn - www.coolingcastlebarn.com and so i thought it would probably go well.
first idea is bunting. does anyone know where i could get nice but still :money: bunting or would it be better making my own? future MIL is pretty handy with a sewing machine so may be able to rope her in, then i suppose i could personalise it too. what does everyone think? any recommendations for fabric etc?
and any other ideas for the 'village fete' theme would be much appreciated??!
thanks!!
xx

quick update - i've had some more ideas, just wanted to check they don't sound terrible and tacky!!!
i thought myabe i could buy some gingham paper napkins for on the tables (OH not keen on full gingham tablecloths). was gonna get jam jars as placecards/favours - stick a label on with guest's name and our names and leedding date then fill with homematde fudge or lemon/strawberry sherbet sweets and buy some of those nice stripey or checked cloth lids. i can get the amount of jam jars i need for £18. then people can easily take them home.
i also have some nice plain white favour boxes that i got very cheaply and we thought of maybe putting a little raffle ticket in each one and do the raffle after dinner for perhaps a bottle of champagne?
OH's g-ma is making our cake, don't quite know how to incorporate this into the theme, any ideas?
Thanks!Disneyworld Florida in August 2011 :jLost so far: 0 lbs of 4stMother of beautiful son with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy0 -
Your ideas sound lovely! I'm going to have bunting at my wedding, was planning on making it using a cheap sheet or something from Ikea. I've seen bunting in a few places but the nearest to what I would want is this one from Cox and Cox. They've also got this paper bunting.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

hi mschazzer,
yes i saw that bunting too, and thought it looked lovely. i'm just trying to find out whether it would be cheaper to make entirely myself or buy readymade and personalise myself! also need to find pattern (probably fiarly easy to make myself i guess!) and info on what sort of material is suitable. i will post what i find out. was thinking of posting on the OS board as i know lots of them do sewing etc.Disneyworld Florida in August 2011 :jLost so far: 0 lbs of 4stMother of beautiful son with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy0 -
For the cake I guess you could put a rossette next to it to say it's won first prize in a pretend baking contest...0

Nice idea.
You could really set the theme with music - do you know anyone in a band? Alternatively you could play some marching band / country music cds.
In the evening you could hold a baking competition - invite everyone (if they want) to bring homemade cakes, jams, preserves, tarts etc. The bridal party could sample the foods, decide on winners and give out rossette /prizes. Afterwards the foods could be distributed to each of the guests tables as finger foods.
I'm sure a "beer tent" would go down well! ha ha!
Do have have guests that are children (or immature adults)? If so you could set up a games area with coconut shies, hook a duck, beat the buzz etc"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)0 -
I love the idea of a baking competition!

you could have a plain linen/ gingham table cloth (wedding cake table )that all your guests could sign, and then the signitures stiched at a later date as a keepsake.
just as a thought you could have a "guess the weight of the wedding cake" either have a free guess and have a prize for the nearest, or make people pay for a guess and give the money to charity.:hello: :j0 -
you could keep your cak simple by putting gingham ribbon around it, and then a single flower on top tied with abit of gingham ribbon.
for the kids if you could afford it have an entertainer if not you could do a raffle for the kids you can but decent stf from the £ shop of see what other shops have on offer.
you could also get them colouring books and pens or even footballl, skipping ropes and hoops if its nice (hopefully).0
