Debenhams took too much money of gift card

Last October I purchased a number of goods from Debenhams direct using a gift card and 2 discount codes. One was for 15% discount and the other for free postage.

The order was confirmed as below

Total cost of products: £171.80 Total delivery charges: £0.00 Total discounts today: -£25.77
TOTAL: £146.03
It was also confirmed when the items where dispatched.

When I checked my balance I found out that they had processed £177.40 which is a difference of £31.37 which is not a fortune but there is a principle at stake.

I have contacted them a number of times and still no balance rectification.

My understanding of the law allows them to cancel the order if the amounts where wrong which is fine. However to acknowledge an order of a particular value and then dispatch it I would assume that is an acceptance at the agreed price.

It is in their interest to sort this out since they sent me a duplicate food processor by mistake. I have informed them they can arrange for the item to be collected as soon as the balance is corrected. The food processor is worth £100 so its really in their interest.

Has anyone else fallen foul of this and what was the outcome. Any advice on the actually legality of what they have done would be appreciated.

They still have not acknowledged they have made a mistake.

Thanks

Matt

You state that they have not acknowledged their mistake, so what response have you had from them?
    Gone ... or have I?
