Thanks for all the replies, even though it wasn't what I wanted to hear!

Amazing when you think about it - obviously a huge gap in the market here. What about Dublin then, any real Italian restaurants there?

I know there are Italian Restaurants in Dublin, whether they are real or not is another question. I was however in Cork over easter visiting family. My sister lives in Douglas which is a really buzzing suburb with lots of bars, restaurants, cafes but surprisingly - no Italians real or otherwise.

Not in my experience...so far :) Tried Il Posto last time I was down and it was hugely expensive and very disappointing :(

I have hopes for Dunne and Crescenzi http://www.dunneandcrescenzi.com/ but only managed to have breakfast there last time - they do serve proper coffee at least. Anyone tried it?

Or any other recommendations would be great.
  • I agree there is no authentic option in NI however if you are ever lucky enough to be in Glasgow yoy must try Sarti's. Have a look on www.sartis.co.uk.

Look like it may not be Italian for much longer !! After seeing your post on Cafe Marano I thought I would do a web search and see what came back. Looks like it up for sale:

This looks like quite a good website though.

    try going to goodfellas

I'd say what I think about goodfellas except they'd probably sue me :)

Similar to Scalini in my opinion - big portions and good prices but not really italian...

Don't know how authentic Italian it is but D'Angelo's on the Lisburn Road is lovely!! Have had several good meals there and prices are not sky high (although it is the Lisburn Road). There's a new Italian takeaway at Finaghy crossroads thats quite good but still think Casa Nostra on the Ormeau Road beats it hands down.

Surely this is a niche that needs filled.....how many Italians are there in Belfast and still no good restaurant?!?
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

D'Angelo is indeed a really nice restaurant, but I would say it's on the pricier side. It's also billed as an Italian/Asian fusion restaurant, so definately not pure italian. Ulstersaver, where's Goodfella's?
