I opened my dishwasher this morning to find the tablet had fallen out of the dispenser, and hadn't dissolved! Apart from a cake tin (I'd made some teabread) everything else was as clean as if the tablet had been used!
A lesson for us there then?

Love beef and pork dripping on toast!!!!!

Use own brand porridge. We don't like porridge made with just water, prefer it made with milk. Use two parts oats/two parts milk/three parts water and the difference is hardly noticeable.

Laundry liquid. Find the Smartprice doesn't wash well but is much cheaper than leading brand and leading brand doesn't work if you don't put enough in. I mix them, 50/50 - leading brand does the business but works out cheaper overall as it is going further on the back of the Smartprice bio.
Cheap and cheerful. Preferably free. :T LBM - more a gradual rude awakening.

I've been bimbling through the back threads on this board and came across a 'recipe' for saving money on soap powder.

    1/3 'good' soap powder
    1/3 cheap/value stuff
    1/3 soda crystals

I've been mixing this as I need it for the last week or so, just in case one of us doesn't get on with it and I have to say it's been bloody fab!
I've only been using 1/2 the recommended amount too. Cleans brilliantly and so far, no reaction.

I've also been weaning us off softener by using a bit more white vinegar and less softener each time.

I know friends who when they do to the Doctors and need to pay for a prescription, they ask thier Doctor to print out the prescription in one of their children names, thus to avoid paying the fees at the chemist. I dont have the balls to do this, but it works for my friends.

This is fraud and can put a GP up in front of his regulatory body.

Primary Care Trusts monitor prescriptions very carefully and will notice these anomolies. Any pharmacist on the ball should flag this up on dispensing (depending on the medication being prescribed) and should check with the prescriber and, if necessary, refuse to dispense.

Got to be lamb dripping for me:p

re: the dishwasher tab i only use one for when pots a really dirty and even then i break it in half other than that a tablespoon of washing soda does the job i also use the rapid wash then open the diswasher door and pull the draws outto let the pots drip dry. Saves electricity by not by not going though the drying cycle.

I keep an eye on what my teens are wearing as I often find six or more pairs of jeans in the washing basket. I know for a fact that they've been worn only once (sometimes for a few hours on an evening out) and they look as clean as before they were put on.

I hang them outside for a bit (the jeans not the teens), fold them up nicely and put them back in their rooms with their laundered stuff. This saves on at least one extra load of washing and all the drying involved. If they think they haven't been ironed well enough they do that bit again themselves (ha ha).

This obviously doesn't work after every teen night out....

nice one - i agree - this type of fraud causes prescription charge increases for the rest of us!!

I do that as well - works wonderfully.

If you shop on the basis of the price per kg and not box price, it is surprising how many errors they make. I have regularly found they make errors so smaller boxes/packets/tins can be priced lower per kg than larger versions.

Agree with this one! Had to get some spaghetti and when i got it i saw this:

    Napolina Spaghetti - 500g - £0.74 (£0.15/100g - £1.50/1kg)*
    Napolina Spaghetti - 1kg - £2.49 (£0.24/100g - £2.49/1kg)*

Now logically - which would be a better buy?

    1x1kg pack
    3x500g packs

Easy - the smaller packs! Seriously - you would expect the bigger packs to work out cheaper - ALWAYS work it out yourself.

    Great thread btw :)

Also someone meantioned earlier about washing out glasses before putting them in the dishwasher - why? get rid of whats in them and put them in, saves water as they dont need rinsing out if they are going in the dishwasher.
