Personal Tax Refund - Advice please

Hi, I wonder if anyone could offer some advice.

I recently received a letter from Investment Recovery Services Ltd stating that they would act on my behalf for a potential personal tax refund.

It is in respect of some shares I bought a long time ago and the company has since gone into liquidation.

Has anybody heard of this firm and are they legitimate?

If I am due this refund is it something I can do myself for free (IRS will charge 25%)?

Yes, there have been loads of threads about such companies that charge typically 25% of a refund for doing nothing more than you can do yourself or get advice free direct from HMRC. You still have to dig out and give them all the information - they just fill in the form - you don't need to pay 25% for the privilege.

Thanks Penny & Jim. I will give them a call on Monday. Seems silly to throw 25% down the drain if its an easy application.

Phoned up and the lady said the company is not on their list however make a memo of it on your tax return and the tax advisor will forward it on anyway?
