  • I am now the proud owner of 12 jars of sloe jelly:j I just chucked them in a pan and let stew for a while before mashing them up with a potato masher. It would have taken a very long time to !!!!! that many sloes:rotfl:

if anyone tries the sloe pudding recipe off the website let us know - I am not convinced myself!

What does it taste like bellsbells? I have a load of sloes in the freezer, and plenty more to pick.

  • I usually make sloe gin when I find sloes....

!!!!! them all over, layer in a jar with an equal weight of sugar, pour over a bottle of gin (drink anything that will not fit in the jar! )

Then you leave them to stand for a couple of months giving the jar a good shake every now and again.... strain out the sloes and put the liquid back in the original gin bottle...

drink as as a liqueur at Christmas (or with lemonade which is how I prefer it!)...
  • Sloe jelly is quite a tart jam. If you want to keep it for a relish to have with game or meat follow the usual recipe for jelly - a lb of sugar for every pint of juice. If however you want a sweeter jelly add a bit extra sugar. Even with the sugar it still has a bit of an edge to it which I love. I am not too keen on overly sweet jams. I like the idea of sloe and apple cheese donna73 - that might be next weekends challenge!

  • Hi, I have been reading a recent thread on what you can do with sloe berries and would like to have a go. I think that we have sloes growing on a footpath behind the house and I picked these this afternoon. Are they sloe berries?

Cut on in half, and put the tip on your toungue on it, it should be very very sharp and sort of dry tasting.

    Good luck

You could make Slider! I tasted this at a local fair recently!

I think it was Cider and Sloes!

  • Would you make it in the same way as sloe gin except substitute gin for cider I suppose?
