This is only my opinion but the problem might be with you not being a BT customer.
Because you pay all of your charges (including line rental) to Talk Talk, you may be listed as not having a BT phone line. You might need to go back to being a BT customer for your phone (check if they offer any incentives for a returning customer) and then try and sign up to the free laptop deal with AOL.
This might mean spending time on the phone talking to all 3 parties (try and get non 0870 numbers so the call is free) to make sure that you are not left without phone or broadband for any length of time, but with a little effort (and a helpful call centre) you should be able to pull this off.

Depends how long ago that person switched packages - the takeover was only a few months ago!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Hi I have been with Aol about 8 years, just got the free laptop 2 wk since took a while though,it was the 4th time I had re ordered it as the 1st 3 times they kept putting me down as a new customer even though kept telling them I was not., so it kept coming up that they wanted mac code. really really frustrating was on the phone 2 hours one time just kept putting me through to dif people, I thought right this is my last time ,this time spoke to someone who could and was willing to help me and they explained that they had so many problems with the system accepting existing customers but it had now been updated, they now accept existing customers so cant understand why talk talk wont. got different answers everytime I rung up none of em seemed to sing from the same song sheet. dont know if this helps but as you say it is the same company.x0

My daughter changed from Talk Talk to AOL. She had to change her line to BT and the Laptop mysteriously disappeared twice before she received one. There is also a delivery charge although the lap top is free.0

also a point to note, if you have poor credit history, do not bother applying for the free laptop offer. We applied only to be told a week later we could not take advantage of this offer has we had failed our credit check. Never thought they would do a credit check for a broadband account. I since found out they credit check you before letting you have the laptop as it is not exactly free, they charge you a little bit extra a month for you broadband service and as you are tied in for 2 years, this basically covers the cost of the laptop.0
