Freemans Catalogue-Credit Reference Agency

I have an account with Freemans catalogue which I had to put on lower payments due to a change in personal circumstances. On 2 occassions I was late with my payment and received their standard letter - if payment is not made...... will be referred to debt collector....... registered on credit reference etc. I phoned them and explained my situation and they said that as payments are still coming in they would not transfer the debt anywhere, neither would it be listed on the credit reference.

Since then I have applied for a mortgage and an entry has shown as a late mail order payment. Would this be from Freemans, even tho they said they wouldn't do it?? I have now cleared the account in full but still haven't got a full explanation from the credit score. And if it is from them, how do I go about putting it right??

Sorry if something similar is already listed, I've tried searching but I can't find the info I need.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey that's not fair, I would contact Freemans in writing and get an explaintion, failing that, get a copy of your credit report and it should show who made the entry.

    Good Luck

  • As Benuk73 has said get copy’s of your credit files from all of the 3 agency’s to find out the exact details of who has made the negative entry, and what information has been submitted.

    https://www.equifax.co.uk

    https://www.experian.co.uk

    https://www.callcredit.co.uk

If you then contest this information as being inaccurate you should approach the company that has submitted that data i.e freeman’s and ask then to verify the late payments including any evidence of this they may hold.

The best approach with most mail order company’s is to request a “true and certified copy” of the original SIGNED credit agreement for the account. If they are unable to provided this document with in 28 Days then you are legally entitled to have the account information fully removed from your credit files.

    Hope this Helps
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
