I'm going to stick to £120 for May. BUT, big but, we have a few 'special' challenges this month that might push us over our limit. On Friday we have the MSE crew coming to film us cooking and eating our Indian meal recipe that won the champagne. So we will be eating Indian every day this week to practice (I don't know why I'm worrying and so nervous, I cook this food all the time!) and also having a 'dinner party' on Friday that we hadn't planned and wasn't in the budget!

Add to that, we have finally found a house to buy:T and had an offer accepted so I will have to be really strong and resist all bargains and start running the freezer down, at least that will save the pennies.

Good luck everyone for your May challenges.

Congratulations and well done jenid :T both on the competition win and the new house :j The champagne will be put to good use i'm sure ;) Thats two good news things i'm sure there will be a third!

When me and OH found out we got the house we wanted we were amazed at how much 'more' we were able to save because all that mattered was our fabby new house :D

  • April was a failure for me but only by about £20 which isn't too bad as it was first month and dd went back on to packed lunches half way through month that I hadn't budgeted for! I have cheated a little bit by buying some lunches out that I didn't take off the budget but overall I still spent less than I normally do!

This month I'm going to put myself down for £120 for may from today (thanks Mrs M!)

  • Hello can I join the May challenge?
I'd like to stick to a budget of £140 for me, my bf, three guinea pigs and a hamster. Its a five week month which is why its slightly higher than I would have wanted...

I wont include the dry pet food or sawdust/hay as I get these from the petshop but I'll count the pigs salad and veg.
    I'll update my sig now

  • I do have a question here - when you're setting your monthly 'food budget' - are you including other things as well - e.g. toilet rolls, washing liquid? Just trying to work out what a realistic budget for May should be.

Unfortunately I seem to be coming to one of those 'running out of all the cupboard staples at the same time' moments, which isn't going to help. Why does that happen?!

Ive totally fell away from this thread and also my Grocery spend for April im afraid.

Ive still got loads of butcher meat in from April, so, I will just carry that forward for May.

For May my amount is £200.

Hi Snugglepuss and sharon_1970 i include toilet roll, household products and most toiletries in my grocery budget but it's really up to you. I think there are others who have seperate budgets for that kind of thing and then others like me who include it.

We have one take away a month which i dont include in the budget either but there are others who do count take aways in their grocery budget. It's just what you are happy with.

Good luck with you GC and keep posting to let us know how you are getting on.
