What about the OAP`s that DO NOT HAVE A BANK ACCOUNT or
If they happen to have been with BT FOR YEARS and
Have always paid with stamps (many years ago) and now buying £5 or £10 pounds every week (when they get their money from thier post office card account) meaning that the have paid BT money up front for the service.
I think that if I were in that possision I would be looking at this charge
£4.50 is unfair. Its ok to say "well go to some other company"
However, all the companys are the same. They all charge something!
The point is they do not have a choice and therefore must pay the £4.50 charge .
Fact . (Remember they have been with BT for years before any of these charges or discounts were added to their accounts.)
The issue is " Its unfair "0 -
It's semantics.
It used to be a £1/month discount on the line rental for paying by DD but, when they increased it to £1.50, they changed it (a VAT-ruse, I think) so you got a reduced line rental but an increased charge if you did not pay by DD.
From a customer point of view, it amounts to the same thing (I still pay £10.50/month for my line rental, just like I did before) but many people interpreted it as being the ammunition they appeared to want to have a pop.
However, from an MSE standpoint, Martin's advice is still pay by DD to save money AFAIAA.
This is what BT say
"Price includes line rental at £10.50 a month when paying by direct debit and elect for paper-free billing. Otherwise add £1.50 per month for payment processing fee levied by BT Payment Services Limited, a BT Group company, plus 50p without paper-free billing discount. Discount is via bill credit. Exclusions and conditions apply. From 1 April 2008 line rental will increase to £11.75 a month, which can be offset by an increased paper-free billing discount of £1.25. "
I pay £11 a month and if i didnt pay by dd i would pay £12.50 a month until the 31/3/08 .From the 1/4/08 i will pay £11.75p a month and if i did not pay by dd i would pay £13.25.
So i do get a discount by bill credit for paying by d/d.0 -
Thank God some common sense has prevailed. It is not unfair as choice exists.
Next people would be taking Tesco to court because they sell Baked beans for 2p more than Aldi.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). They do have a choice.
Have OAPS never thought of opening a bank account? They have just as much choice in doing this as anyone else. Age is not the issue here, probably stubbornness more than anything.
Irrespective customer loyalty means nothing these days, in order to make companies work for the customer, the customer needs to be aware of what services they're getting & who can offer them cheaper when it comes to contract renewal date.0 -
Although i dont recommend it they have always got the option of moving to another landline supplier, that accepts cheques/cash . I believe the cheapest that accept cash/cheque is the Post Office Homephone. £32.85p a quarter.(They dont allow you to pay monthly if you dont pay by d/d.)
Mind you if you value caller display the PO charge £1.75p a month for it.Where its nearly free or free with BT. So it wipes out virtually any savings.0 -
Why did all those people not move banks when they charged illegal charges?
How come they were illegal when you had the option to take your debt elsewhere?0 -
Bank charges have yet to be shown to be unlawful. The banks didnt want it to go to court. Hence why they paid up. In the case of bank charges it is more down to the wording and how they were charged. Already some of the banks have revised their charging structures to what they believe cannot be successfully challenged. This has resulted in some paying less and some paying more but the net result being about the same.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
