Old, old defaults ????

I think I saw something like this recently but cannot for the life of me find it so apologies if this is a repeat of a thread

I've just had a good look through my Experian report and I have two very old defaults on there. I hate to say it but I don't know if I have cleared them or not (head's been in the sand for years but I did make a really good effort to clear some stuff a while ago)

One of them I'm sure is paid, the other I'm pretty sure. But the record is still showing as a default. I am damn sure they would have gone to collection agents either way.

How do I contact them and put that disclaimer in (I've forgotten the wording) that says "This in no way constitutes that I own this debt" or whatever it is. I want them to give me proof that it's not paid before I sling my weight around trying to get my records clean, just in case! If it is still owing I'll suss out a way of paying it to get it marked satisfied but I just don't know and don't trust some people. What was the stuff I read on asking a company to prove ownership of the debts?

Sorry, I don't know how to do a link to it, but it's on the 'debt free wannabe' board.

Ah!!!! That's the one i was looking for but i couldn't remember what it was called and the search button kept crashing on me!

Next question, if say a storecard sole the debt on and I paid it, how do I get the default marked as satisfied if the storecard have washed their hands of it and I don't have the details of the collection agent anymore?

I would raise a query with Experian and they will investigate it for you. I don't know how reliable they are about getting stuff sorted though - I'm currently waiting for them to get back to me regarding a query I raised.
