Hvaghela – (#1054) You are quite right; the original figure was correct at £65.73. As you will see, I have put in an ‘edit’ at the end of that post, which I hope explains what happened; and put the figures back as they were. I do hope this imaginary error of mine didn’t waste too much of your time, and I’m glad our figures are now in complete agreement.

Sorry DD for the haste in my post in the '3 Easy stages' thread. I look forward to reading the rest with anticipation.

No problem. Maybe you wouldn't mind deleting it. I'll delete my reply. The thread will be clear then. After I have finished my post no doubt others will pick up on things I have missed. That and other relevant information can be put below the first post so all the 'hardcore information' is easy to find and is not the experience you had when you came to this thread.

As far as claim dates go that will be covered too. I have my own reasons for 1st April which I will give in the 'how to' thread. Go with whichever date you feel suits you.

Good luck and keep us informed.
  • Hi Sterling - I dont work for Npower however been with them for 4 years. You could say im a bit sad when it comes to my bills, i like to know everything. I thought a while ago that my gas bill was wrong and the customer service staff couldnt explain my bill to me and offered to send out information in the post. I am still waiting for my bill as i pay by direct debit and get them every 6 months. I am going to check this and send them a email to check if the 4572 units at the high price is reset as i have been informed from friends that this is the case. Hope this helps and i will try and keep you updated with my reply. Cheers
  • Hi as above - Npower reset 4572 units charged at the high rate when they have a price change or you change product. So really you pay more at the high rate as they had to price changes in 08

Could you provide a bit more information on this please.

Do you mean you pay more for the units because there was a price increase or that you pay for more units because they reset the 4572, whenever there is a price change (up or down) or you change product.

If the latter please provide the figures for how they charge for more than 4572 units in any continuous period of 12 months as a result of re-setting the 4572.

Do they re-set it if you change to a product that doesn't have a two tier pricing tariff ?

In the past four years were you on a two tier pricing tariff. If so did the information pack explain that you were not charged more than 4572 per annum, provided you use that amount of gas or more per year.

What precisely is in the information pack.

It is encouraging to know that some customers like to know everything there is to know about their utility bills. Not many do. That's why we end up on sites like this.

    Thanks.
  • My first post after all :-) and it will be a long one… so first of all, apologise for my english if I make any mistakes (I’m originally from Slovakia .....been living in UK for 2 ½ years now....... and I’m still wondering that something like this can happen in UK ;-))

I have been following this thread for quite a long time… and it has helped me to realise that I have as well been overcharged by npower. I was with npower for exactly one year – from 04/03/2007 to 03/03/2008 – been charged for 5987 units on the higher rate and claimed £60.59 overcharging. My first complaint was sent to npower in April 2008 by Email. They have replied twice with their usual rubbish explanations.

At the same time I have complained that they have not paid the annual discount … and guess what! … another definition of “year” – you have to be their customer for 12 months (which I was) and you have to as well prove to them (I had to send copies of my bank statements!!!) that you have been paying by direct debit for a “year” – and here it goes – to be eligible … if my first payment was 3rd April 2007 (one month after joining) my last payment had to be 4th April 2008 …. one would think that one year is 12 months and you have to make 12 payments…. no… not at npower!!! … you have to make 13 payments and as well hope that the dates overlap (otherwise they just say “sorry”…) Fortunately I have not cancelled direct debit with them and they have taken money in April (although I was in credit…) ….. just unbelievable…

Back to overcharging issue…. In June I sent npower another letter (recorded delivery) and as well contacted energy watch. In July my annual discount issue was finally resolved (probably thanks to energy watch). I continued complaining about the overcharging issue - sent 3 more letters requesting refund in August, October and December (sent to Executive Complaint team at Gateshead). No reply!

Is it possible that they have closed my complaint after the annual discount issue was resolved? Although I have as well complained about overcharging? Or do they simply ignore me thinking … she will never to go to court with her language barrier… ????

    What would you suggest?

Oh and by the way… DirectDebacle … you are a legend! :-)

Often been called a leg end. I much prefer legend. Thank you:embarasse

Seems to me you have gone as far as you can with npower. They are obviously ignoring you in the hope that you will go away.

You have limited options which I see as:

    1. Keep pestering npower (A waste of time in my opinion)

    2. Contact Consumer Focus (Likely to be a waste of time but you never know.)

    3. Complain to the Energy Ombudsman. I have no idea how this will go. They can require (force) npower to re-imburse you, pay you compensation and in addition, if they investigate your case, charge npower £325 whether they find in your favour or not.

    4. Start recovery proceedings through the County Court. This is not as daunting as it sounds. There is plenty of help on MSE to assist you with this process and I have gone down this road myself. I can give certain advice and assistance as I am sure everyone on here will do too. My experience of this is that they will lead you a merry dance. That is what they have done so far and they will continue to do so.

Personally I would go for option 4.

Option 3 is well worth considering. I do not know of any cases that have been through this process yet so to my knowledge it not tried and tested.

Have a look at the 'how to thread', there is a link in my signature at the bottom section of the post. Consider a Stage 2 claim if you haven't done so already. It appears much more complicated than it really is. Any questions or further information you want to ask come to this thread to do it, not on the 'how to thread'.

Good luck and we wait to hear from you.
  • Cardew... it took me 4 hours to write that post :-D ...but thanks ;-)
  • DD... thank you :-) i have already read your guide... i will follow it and write one last letter to npower (now including stage 2) and if no reply, will try energy ombudsman....
