Digital Box with Setanta Card

I have purchased a SAGEM digital Box which comes with a Setanta Card. The box offers free connection to Setanta sports and Free first months viewing, the IMPORTANT Note on the box says" you will need to give your direct debit / credit card details and contact information when you call Setanta Sports to activate the card".
I have tried to do this but Setanta sports want a months payment (£9.95)from me in advance, giving me two months for the price of one.
Are Setanta allowed to request payment from me, as there advert on the box makes no mention of any payment required for activating the new card?
Regards
Garth

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I have just had the same problem. I paid second month but will be taking it further with setanta, as nowhere does it say it cost £9.99 for your free subscription. I bought my box from argos and it is not covered by thier 30 day guarentee.
Also found out you only get 1 setanta sports channel on freeview.0
