Age of making a contract/gym membership

Hello all, I was wondering if any of you knew if I am legally entitled to end my gym membership because I was under 18 when I signed up? I am still 17, but 18 in a week. I have a 12 month contract with Fitness First which I made around Sept/Oct time, but I want to quit because of other commitments eg school and work.
I heard that for a contract to be legally binding I have to be over 18 and not a minor, so there may be a way for me to get out of the membership...
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks tom.

18 is the minimum age to enter a contract. Provide nobody signed as guarantor or joint signatory the contract is void. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

I have just spoken to my mum and she thinks it will be ok to quit on the basis I was 17 when I joined. I'm just going to cancel the direct debit as well. The letter written was not part of the contract either, just to say it was ok for me to use the facilites. hope this works, thanks again for your help :beer:0
