  • Hello! Back again...in more debt that I started again. Due to a few things some unexpected big expenses, OH not earning very much through his freelance work and us not cutting back as we should have.

However I'm determined that this time we are going to do it. So starting yesterday I started the pay £1 a day to one of the highest interest credit cards. Also had a no spend day because I was off work.

Will get an up to date SOA up and a new debt total which I know is around the £14,000 mark at the moment.

Number of things I can do in the short term to sort it this out, still to claim PPI insurance on a couple of credit cards, OH has bank charges to claim back. So if we can get this done it will help to reducing the debt.

    Right here we go!

  • Just checked all the balances of our accounts and found out that it's £14,411.71 as of the first of November. So far paid off this month (including the payment a day challenge that I have just caught up with this month) is £229.89.

Not a bad start 1.7% paid off in 18 days, all the big payments come off at the end of the month so that will increase that so I can meet the target of 10% by January 2009.

  • Welcome back, you will get there, but one thing I noticed you mentioned 'us not cutting back as we should have' try doing a mini challenge where you cut back on something each week, even if its just a bar of chocolate a day. That way you don't notice your cut backs so much when you do them gradually.

  • Hi Penny2myname,

That's a great idea, as it is all the little things that have been adding up or that I'll just meet you for a quick pint after work before we head home ;)

I've made my first one - just been to tesco's to do an essential item shop using my vouchers and managed to resist the lure of the magazine rack which is a big weakness of mine!

OK so this weeks cut back is magazines (don't really need them as you can get all the information I look at online.......looking at clothes/ make up hints and recipies is the main thing I buy them for). Also I have a weakness for the hot chocolate in O'Briens when it's a cold day. So have bought a jar of hot chocolate, I own a milk throather (spelling?) and will pick up some marshmallows from poundstretchers. That should save me about £10 a week. :money:

  • Just got £45 rent from lodger so have paid some that to MBNA which has a really high interest rate. Also received travel expenses back from work so have put half of that back into the credit card - will put the rest in next week once OH is back with his earnings.

Saved £2.50 on the essential shop thanks to tesco vouchers, also bought my first xmas presents and saved over £30 on the original price by shopping around online and will earn quidco cash back. Found my £5 morrisons voucher from buying my petrol there. What a good day.........if only it could be like this all the time.

So new total today is £14,167.09.

  • Not a great day for spending...unfortunately. Bought lunch - £3 from boots, had to chip into colleagues b/day present £5, travel to work £2.50 but did a good shop spending £8 on freezer veg and some meat for meals that will do a good number of meals.

Put £12.19 into PAD challenge, only put so much in today because when I checked my spread sheet I was only £9 above £14,000 and wanted to get below it.

New balance £13,999.40!!!! That looks much better eh?

  • Have you had a chance to do your new SOA yet?
  • Hi and good luck,

Also well done for coming back. The thing that keeps me going is the challenges on here such as the 15k Paper Hat challenge. You should join one that you like and it might help with motivation.
