Remortgage & transfer of equity - 2 different solicitors

Does anybody have any experience of trying to do a transfer of equity and a remortgage but using a different solicitor for each part?
My house and current mortgage are in joint names. I have already instructed my own solicitor with regards to the transfer of equity into my sole name but this cannot be done until the end of April as I do not wish to redeem my current mortgage before the expiration of the redemption penalty. My new mortgage is to be with the Halifax, who have insisted I use their solicitor for the remortgage. According to the Halifax the transfer of equity and remortgage should be able to be completed on the same day. However, the remortgage solicitors are saying not. I am unable to get a straight answer out of anyone and really need to know how long I am likely to be paying my current mortgage for till it is sorted, as I go onto the SVR of 7.5% after the end of April.
Any advice gratefully received, thanks.

I had to do this as my sister had to removed from my mortgage and my girlfriends name had to go on. Our solicitor dealt with it and dealt with the lenders solicitor and as far as I can remember it was all done on the same day - there was a lot of paper work on the build up to it as far as I can remember though. Unfortunately you are at the mercy of your solicitor and the lenders Solicitor, best to just keep on enquiring on the proposed completion date with a hope of spurring it on. Best of luck...0
