Hi, have been reading the site for a while and its very helpful, however i need little help please.
To try and cut a long story short, a phone company is saying we owe them money from when we switched contracts, its a small amount but we do not owe it. We have spoken to the company on numerous occasions afetr recieving letters from around 3 different debt collectors acting on their behalf, each time we ring the company and they say they know we dont owe it the message just hasnt been passed down the line.
This has gone on for months now and this morning we recieved a letter saying they are sending bailiffs to our house for it!!
What can we do and can they really do this?
Thanks

They cannot send balliffs without it going through the courts. I think you need to send a letter asking them to prove you owe the debt that is there job not to just say pay it.
Sure somone else will come along with the links for it.0 -
Ask the phone company to send you a letter confirming you don't owe the debt. then if any DCA's etc get in touch you can send them a copy of the letter.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

There is a generic "bog off until you prove I owe you anything" letter courtesy of National Debtline here:
Link: Prove it letter. (ignore the rest of the post apart from the letter)
But I agree with IA. If you can back that up with proof from the phone company, then that would be even better.
As rayday2 says, real bailiffs cannot become involved unless there is a court order that you have failed to pay.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
