Has anybody bought furniture from Reid Furniture Stores??

I want to buy 2 recliner sofas for about £2,500 from Reid furnitures in Horwich Store, Lancs. I went on Good Friday, we were the only customers, and the level of service was sh1te. The staff were unwilling to help, and would not give straight easy answers when we enquired about a particular sofa. I was told that we had to assemble the sofas ourselves upon delivery.

Now, we have been to every sofa shop going and the ones in Reids were the cheapest and cosiest + they do 4 years interest free, so we really want to go for it, but what is there after sales like?? Has anybody encountered any problems with them?? When we assemble the sofas and something is not right would it be hard work to get it sorted. I would be grateful for any replies if anybody has had experience with them good or bad, as we are thinking of putting our order in on Friday. Buying from them will save me £500, from the DFS ones, but dont know what to do. Thanks in advance, Freda.

  • hi
we bought our first 2 suites from reids and got abought 10 yrs out of each of them.Last year decided to go back to them for 2 x 2 recliner sofas which we told would take approx. 12 wks .when the sofas arrived 3 months later I was horrified that one sofa had the wood frame nearly bursting through the leather on one side + various other smaller faults .As I'd paid £2000 I let them know that I wasn't a happy bunny.
To cut a long story short had 2/3 visits from reids inspectors.sofas taken away twice for "repairs" I finally demanded that they take it back and refund me my £2000 and I had my cheque within 10 days.
Reids furniture used to be made in their own factory but this is no longer the case. A large % of it is now made abroad and the difference in quality , compared to what it was is IMHO is huge.
As to customer service we went to a local showroom and the salesman said that if we went to their "clearance " branch in the city we could place the order for the sofas we wanted and save a few hundred ££. so that,s what we did.
I,m amazed that after Paying £2500 they expect you to assemble it yourself anyway hopen this helps a little
  • We ordered 2 sofas from Reids (Braehead) one was a large corner suite - which was delivered in 3 pieces - the delivery guys put it together for us. They were actually really good as they noted "faults" 1 chipped foot - replaced, liner underneath torn - replaced and the scatter cushions were missing. The foot and liner were fixed within a week, the scatter cushions took a while but that gave me time to choose some pretty ones in the sales!

tbh it is so comfy the only thing that I would say is that even though we chose the best grade of leather they sold I think their QC could have been a bit picker for the price they are charging - we have 3 kids so took out the insurance cover (which I never normally do) so I am not too worried.

btw even in their "sale" they will move on the price as long as you are cheeky enough to ask - and if you are really lucky the SA will not be able to work out percentages off the top of their head ;) :rotfl:
