in Cutting tax
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help cause I have no idea how this works. I was on maternity leave at the start of the 07/08 tax year and then went onto sick leave in June til I handed in my notice and left in August. I have paid tax on these earnings but have done no further work this tax year.
I think I may be due some tax baxk on this. How do I go about this, will they send it to me after the P60's are done or would I need to claim it?
thanks in advance for any help

If your total income (taxable earnings / gross interest) is less than £5225 .. then you would be liable for a full refund of any tax paid. You need to post back your total income / tax paid / code number ... if the income is over £5225 .... and some helpful soul on here will calculate the refund for you?
But you only get a P60 from an employer you are with at 5th April. If you're not in employment at that time .... then you need to send in the P45 you will still have (to the District shown on it) with a letter claiming any refund. But best to do that asap .... as the busy time just after 6th April is close. If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Ask the Tax Office for a P50 form, complete and send back with your P450

I believe I am due a tax refund and when I spoke to the Tax Office they said you need to write a list (including dates) of all the money you personally have had come in. Don't include your partners earnings. This must include any benefits you have claimed and there mustn't be any gaps in the dates.
For example...
April 1st 2007-June 1st 2007. Maternity pay at a rate of £xx.xx per week.
June 2nd 07- August 1st 07 On statutory sick pay at a rate of £xx.xx per week.
August 2nd 07-Present Day (26th march 08) On no income at all
You also need to put in a covering letter just to say that you are writing to ask if they can check if you are due any refund.
If you have one you need to send your last P60 too.
I sent my paperwork off on 23rd feb 08 and haven't heard a thing.
If you aren't sure though give them a call. They are very helpful and friendly.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Just to add to my previous post, I got my rebate today. Took just over a month.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0

Hi
Can anyone help? My husband was on BR tax code last year and earnt £11000 before deductions, his tax code has now been sorted out so this year will be a good one I hope!! Can anyone tell me a rough figure of how much he might get back in a refund? When might he see the rebate as well.
He was on BR as he was self employed at the beginning of last tax year but by August 07 he was in full time employment, if that helps.Banana LoversBuy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning0 -
Just noticed this thread, dont know if its too late for me to try, but I was on Maternity leave from nov 2005, returned in sept 2006 but handed my notice in dec 2006, I wondered at the time if I should be getting some Tax back, but then forgot about it (not very MSE of me!) thanks for the prompt:T0

Sorry I have no idea how to work out how much rebate your hubby might get back. Best thing to do is phone the tax office for a P50 form (I didn't do this but seems just as effective as what I had to do) and wait and hope!
As for how long it takes.....it took me roughly 1 month to get my cheque but I put my claim in before the April rush.

I was told when I first called the tax office that you have 6 years to make a claim so you should be fine.
HTH & good luck:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0
