Quick question about car

Hi i have a car which i need for shopping, taking son to school etc?
i accept that the OR may not think thats reason enough to keep it,far enough.
But ive done an evaluation site thingy and its valuing my car at £900 in poor condition, which it is.
So i wanted to know does the OR actually check your car to see if its in what kind of poor condition it is in?
If OR decides hes wants to take it as an asset, what kind of money do you think i would have to raise to keep it?
It was my mums car and has sentimental value, really dont want to lose it,it would crush me.
Thanks for reading

Hi. My OR told me that as my car was worth less than £2k and I needed it for work/school/childcare, he had no interest in it. I told him it was worth £385 on Parkers and he said he would check but that it was unlikely it would jump by more than a grand so I could relax

The poor private sale valuation relates to a sale at auction, which is what would happen. Try not to worry too much xxxBSC member 131 :j Now bring me that horizon...

Hi there,
I was in a similar situation to yourself and my car was worth £2000. I need the car for work and school runs. The OR did not need to take a look and granted me exception. I was even able to change my car a few months after the BR without any problems. All the best.

Have a quick read of this link to help you prepare your reasons for keeping the car,

Not wanting to put a dampner on things, but cars depend on the OR on the day....
There are threads here (I cannot remember who - Gambit??) who lost her banger car, that she needed to take her daughter to school and back, 60 mile round trip AND the MOT was due. She had to buy it back.
Whereas I have so far been allowed to keep my car that I only need to domestic purposes (although the OR has stated they may review this) and its valued at about £1k. She exempted mine for domestic purposes - I have 4 kids and need to take one to regular doctors and hospital. I really thought I was definately going to lose it.
There are lots more threads about people losing their cars regardless of the state of them, if they do not work (employment work - I know motherhood should come into that.................)
Please, please do not get your hopes up. I am not trying to upset or put a dampner here, but it really does depend on the OR on the day.0 -
Maybe location comes into it also? Access to bus routes etc?0

Nope. Gambit (it if was her) lives rurally. I live in a town with a bus top outside my front door.
This is something that has been commented on before about no rhyme or reason for it.0 -
Apologies - it was not Gambit, it was Debtee

Yes well I had my old banger down for a valuation of approx £200 and the OR wanted it even though I had good reason to keep it,she offered it back to me for £50 and I said I could not afford it and then she said £20 so I agreed. Good luck to you.0

I think Skylights right, it does depend on the OR.
One member who went BR was told she couldn't keep her Skoda, valued at less than £100. She was a teacher who worked some distance from home and had loads of books etc to carry to and from work each day.
I believe she fought the decision though, and won.
Give it your best shot and if that doesn't work, appeal.;)The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter
