halifax wrong advice

icon8.gifhalifax stole my savings!!!!!
Hello,I have been with halifax plc for 16 years and never defaulted on payments or had any bank charges against me.
In dec 2007 I rang them and asked if I could have a holiday break from my loan payment of £293.00 and was told YES.!!!
I then lost my job so rang them and they said that I shouldnt have been told that I could have a break and I was now in arrears but if I paid 2 payments of £180.00 then they would reschedule my repayments.
I paid these 2 payments out of my savings which I also had to use to pay my rent, gas and electric.I then rang them after the 2 payments and was told that it had to be 3 payments and I wasnt guaranteed a reschedule. Then before I could make that 3rd payment they took all my savings from my websaver account (£699.19) and left me with nothing to live on.
I contacted them again and they reluctantly agreed to give me back £200.00, But when I went into my online banking they had taken another £699.19 and made me overdrawn. This will make me have bank charges and also affect my credit rating. Then they had the cheek to ring me up a few days later and asked for more money!!!
As I see it, this is all down to them giving me the wrong information back in dec last year .I was managing to keep up my repayments for all my debts out of my savings until they took them from me. I will be starting work on tues but will not get paid till the end of APR so will not be able to make any payments till then and I have no money to live on or get fuel to travel to work, which may mean I will lose that job!!!
Is there anything I can do to resolve this matter.
Your help would be very much appreciated.
thank you,
Carol

    Hi Caz,
Contact the CAB for some professional advice. put your complaint in writing to the bank Manager. Can a family member lend you anything until you get paid?

Get your new wage paid into a different account at a different bank so that they cannot take any more.

thanks bank-of-slate. I have applied with cccs for a dmp but I dont know which other bank to try as I will probably be a bad credit risk now because of what they have done.I saw the bank manager and all she managed to do was offer me 200.00 Back from my savings

Try opening a simple, basic account.
I have a Natwest Solo account...no overdraft, no cheque book, just a solo card that you can use in store and online, it's great!
it's the kind of account that people get after being declared bankrupt.

And people who've made a pig's ear of their own finances :p < Me!
I find it a great wee account, I can pay bills online, set up direct debits and transfers to my ISA, although it isn't great for making payments towards certain things such ashotel rooms or online travel as some places still want switch or Visa. Other than that, more than happy with it.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!
