How long for Mortgage Offer - Nationwide

I wonder if you can help me. I am moving to a new house and am porting my existing mortgage and borrowing some extra. We had an agreement in principle from nationwide and I was referred to my local branch to progress my application when we found our property. This was 6 weeks ago. A surveyor was sent out to my new property nearly 4 weeks ago and we have still had no mortgage offer.

I am getting pressure from my solicitor and Redrow Homes as they are growing concerned as the delay in issuing the offer seems unusually long.

Do I have cause to worry? - Has anyone had a similar experience? - I have chased the branch several times who have told me it is with Head Office and not to be concerned?

We have a good credit record and are existing NW customers

Thanks for your help

I have had to chase Nationwide for a re-mortgage offer three times so I would try going to Head Office direct - just nag, nag, nag and keep a note of names dates and times!!

I get offers from nationwide the same day or the day after a valuation gets in. Last week I had an amended offer out an hour after they recieved the new val on the new property.

I would really question the service you are getting. Talk to the branch advisor your saw, if your not happy ask for the branch manager.

Sometimes they take 1 week from start to finish, other times they take 4 months. Why is anyone's guess.
Not a lender I admire for service, although not as bad as Woolwich.

I've found Nationwide okay lately (there's the kiss of death!!)

Had a couple of cases go straight to offer because they were very low loan to values.

am i correct in saying when u get ur offer and surveys are all ok, then there shouldn't be anything else to worry about (e.g they decide to pull out? suddenly after the offer given) i am thinking if they get itchy feet with all this credit crisis etc

its possible but unlikely for it to fall apart after offer.

  • I would give them a call. I used to have a mortgage with them and when I applied my application was shelved after 3 weeks because some info was missing and no one had the courtesy to inform me. I was waiting waiting waiting for ages, until one day I decided to call, found out they needed more info from me, which I sent and everything went through fairly smoothly from then on...
