  • I would offer to pay for the repairs at least - hopefuly the owner would understand the situation, and wouldn't ask me to stump out for the whole laptop!

Gotta say, how irresponsible of the owner not to have insurance - it's for these kinds of situations exactly!

    IF YOU'RE SKINT......
Do I need it? Can I afford it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?

    IF YOU'RE NOT SKINT......
Will I use it? Is it worth it? Can I find it cheaper anywhere else?

I couldn't afford to replace it either. I'd probably gabble muchos apols, in thehope that a Mcd ' s employee would come to rescue with a claim form In the absence of this, I'd offer to pay the excess on their home insurance.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

Interesting post script about a similar accident in a more upmarket venue here:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/programmes/business_daily.shtml

(It is the last 5 minutes of the programme and it is also repeated on 648 in the medium band @ 12:40 & 22:30.)
