Seems you have a issue with people exicising they rights under CCAct . If there is a true correctly signed Agreement , NO PROBLEM , SEND IT .Broken_hearted wrote: »Yes ROG but they know the owe the debt, two phone calls isn't that bad just remind them to communicte in writing.0 -
We have just been telling them that until we receive the paperwork requested, we have no need or desire to speak to them, kindly go away and stop ringing - then the phone goes down.
Next time they call, we may ask for names etc, but to be honest, my problem is more that they shouldn't be calling in the first place! Is that a light I see at the end of the tunnel?;)0 -

BH - you are, in a way, correct in your last statement - the operative word being 'if'.
You, too, have had 'problems' with debt collector harassment and are, or should be, as aware as the rest of us, of the type of 'tactics' employed by this particular sub-sector of the financial industry.
Virtually anyone could set themselves up as 'debt collectors' - bounty hunting on often incorrect information, and 'purchasing' otherwise unenforceable 'debt' for a few pence, in the hope that the 'targeted debtor' is unaware of his rights.
If I rang you and said that you owed me £5,000, would you not expect me to back up that demand with fact?
Equally, it is not just the frequency of phone calls that can be distressing for an 'alleged debtor' but also the tone and content of those phone calls.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Would I be right in assuming I should report them to TS where they are based (ie Northampton), or to my local TS branch?
Personally, I would say report them to the Northampton Trading Standards:

Chances are that they are 'well known' there.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.

I have been following this thread with interest. My mum, who is a pensioner, received a call from Clarity last week, apparently they were looking for me -odd as I have not lived there for more than 6 years (and then it was only for a month or so while I found a flat). They left their number and a reference. Now normally I would ignore random phone calls, but I will not allow some random people to call and annoy my parents.
I called the number and tried to withhold any details except the reference number and denied any knowledge of their company etc. I asked that my mother's number be removed from their data base, they refused unless I gave them either my number or address. I have given them my address and asked them to write to me explaining exactly what this is about.
Grr - how dare these rude people harass pensioners.Lightbulb moment Feb 2008.
