It's not a simple question though is it? It's guesswork.

Also, which rates do you mean? BoE rates or mortgage rates? The differences between the two are widening......

You're willing to make what I assume is an important decision based on what the morons (no offence people, I include myself in that :) ) on this site think?

    I mean the BoE.
By all accounts, once the credit crunch is over (!) the two should start to converge. Or put another way, the BoE will keep rates low while the crunch is on.

why is your IFA useles. You ask him to predict something in 5 years time. If you asked me I would say probably higher than now but I would not put money on it.

My IFA is useless because he never gives us advice. Why have an IFA if he's incapable of that. I may as well do everything myself!

    Is everyone being purposely obtuse?
I would expect a financial adviser to be able to compare and contrast the risks involved in staying on my current tracker and taking a fixed rate for three or five years. This is the question that I have been asking my IFA. He is incapable of providing me with a comparison of the risks.

As for this thread, the original question is a way of me expressing the question in very simple terms. But I would expect my IFA to be answer me with a list of pros and cons of various products. Good grief!
