Cheap Malt Whisky that's Nice!

For those of us who like malt whisky apart from the odd gourging on malts at Whisky Live, the pleasurable tipple can be an expensive habbit.
However a friend recommended a dirt cheap malt which although I was sceptical (having wasted money on deeply unpleasant malts in the past), this time I was pleasantly suprised.
The whisky is bottled for Tesco, is called Glen Ranoch [sic] and is a single malt for only £8.99 per 70cl bottle. No fancy box, or cork cap, and is usually hidden behind some others on the shelf.
The malt itself doesn't list an age, so is probably younger than 8 years, BUT is very drinkable, a little reminiscant of Dalwhinnie but lacking some of the honey tones and complexity. It's a highland malt, possibly distilled near Glen Rannoch but Tesco aren't giving anything away.
Worth seeking out a bottle if you are passing, even if you don't love it, it's something to foister on unloved guests without feeling too guilty, or to use as a base for a whisky toddy.

My 90 year old Grandad and his cousin drink that, another of there favourites is one from Kwik Save, I think it's the same price but they have the 1.5 litre bottle for £16.95.
p.s. the Doctor told my Grandad said he could only have a glass a day..........but nobody told him how big the glass could be!!! Only joking.0
