Surely it I possible to develop software where the IFA or better the client feeds in their personal details and out pops a range of options.

There is very sophisticated software out there that does exactly what your looking for.
A growing number of IFAs are using it, however given the cost I think numbers are still fairly thin on the ground. Many so called "New Model Advisers" use the system
