Edge Of Carpet

I'm about to have new carpet in a room and want to avoid one of the things that happened to the previous one - ie an edging of dirt around the edges by the skirting boards. Even when I use a stiff handbrush (sometimes - as I'm a housework hater) on those edges they still stay dirty-looking.

In the process of swopping carpet I will be swopping from beige to a mid-brown speckled type one (I dont do patterned carpets) - so that will help hide the "multitude of sins" - but I fear it will still happen, just not be so noticeable with the darker colour.

Any suggestions please? - both on stopping it happening and what to do if it did happen again.

If you hoover regularly round the edges with the hoover attachment it should prevent it.

its probably coming up from underneath. seal the bottom of the floorboards/skirting board with sealant before laying the carpet.

Sometimes my hoover doesn't seem to reach to the very edge of the carpet; I have used parcel parcel tape to pick up dust etc at the edges - the sticky brown stuff - which might not be as thorough as brushing but is very easy!
