My main TV has broken..the colour appears to have gone and everyone is either purple or green. It was going for a while as we had patches of colour problems, but it is now completely unwatchable.
I was looking at TVs online this morning but I am unsure what I am actually looking at..so basically what do I need, for instance is HD ready essential, what about widescreen ones as opposed to full screen TVs?
For £500 maximum what can I expect to buy quality and size wise? Is bigger better or is there an optimum size for a standard 18x12 lounge?
The last main TV I bought I just went to a shop and pointed at one and took it home the same day, but it is a standard CRT with no bells and whistles and I am not really up to date with the new technology. It will need to be OK to run with my sky box though.
EDIT: Also are Tvs still measured diagonally, as I need to measure what I have so I can compare sizes.

The best forum for advice on TVs is www.avforums.co.uk
You will need to have an idea of size (diagonal screen measurement) and whether you want CRT, LCD or Plasma. Once you have narrowed that down, you can search on the best spec of that type of tv for your money, and then include things like HD etc.
Good luck, it is not a prospect I would relish, I left that the the OH and it still took him a year to decide!0
