“We are thrilled to be launching our new premium Chicken Selects, as the country sends its premium athletes to the Athens 2004 Olympic Games,” announced McDonald’s last July.shieldsy wrote:Incidentally, their chicken nuggets are the ONLY ones I ever let my children eat since I read the Consumer Associations report into them. Even the best of the supermarket nuggets contain all sorts of junk compared to McD's 100% chicken breast variety.
Get it? We’re supposed to think of Chicken Selects as the
gold-medal winners in the chicken-strip competition. After all, they’re made of “premium-quality, 100 percent white chicken breast meat, seasoned and lightly breaded.”
Ounce for ounce, the (deep-fried) Selects are no healthier than the (deep-fried) Chicken McNuggets. A five-strip order of Selects has 630 calories and 11 grams of bad fat (saturated plus trans).
That’s a Big Mac, except the burger has 1,010 mg of sodium, while the Selects hit 1,550 mg. And that’s without the sauces, which range from 160 mg (Tangy Honey Mustard) to 910 mg (Spicy Buffalo).
Despite McDonald’s PR baloney, its healthiest chicken comes in the Chicken McGrill sandwich (400 calories and three grams of bad fat) or the Caesar Salad with Grilled Chicken (200 calories and three grams of bad fat, without dressing).
Once again, McDonald’s fails to medal in the honesty competition.

It really anoys me to read and or listen to the rubish some people sprout off about McDonalds. I know they are not the most ethical company in the world and they do have thier faults. But if you are going to have a go at them get your facts right, otherwise you make yourself look like fools and everybody ignores you.
I cannot comment about the Burgers but I can confirm as a ex engineer at the factory that produced all the Chicken Mc Sandwitch and Mc Nuggets for the European market that The Chicken sandwitch contain only 100% chicken breast meat. The only other ingredients used are used to make the batter on the outside. So the term rubbish is incorrect ! they are good quality.
Before you go on and comment on the breeding of the birds, I cannot comment on the source and breeding of the meat because we had the breast fillets pre prepared and delivered into our factory in large containers.
As has been said above if people want to have a go at Mc Donalds please look at things that are wrong, IE low paid workforce ETC, But if you do, why stop with Mc Donalds look at other large companies. Then look deeper to see why they do it. Yes it is profit for the sharholders based but it is also consumer related as we all demand the best products for the cheapest prices.0 -
Well said.
Lets face it we dont really know what goes on in any food prep other than our own, even the highest rated resteraunt may be producing food in a way or with ingrediants that would shock us. Mds is just an easy target.
I love big macs, and I rarely eat meat, and going to macdonalds is my choice. I wonder why some people feel they can dictate where or what others should eat,, after all, this body is mine, to the death, and only I will choose what to eat
I generally eat healthily, lots of fruit and veg, pulses and such, but I'm a bad person for the odd Md's,, give over
Thank you op,, When I pop into town for the roseby sale tomorrow I shall also pop into Mds,, and share the deal with my big sis

Roger_Rampant wrote:You're right, but if people saw how most processed food was prepared they probably wouldn't eat it. I remember my horror as a temp when I did a couple of 12-hour-shifts at Mr Kipling Cakes to help my agency out. That was about 30 years ago, and I haven't eaten any Mr Kipling products since...
If you saw how unprocessed meat was prepared would you eat it? An abertoir isn't exactly my idea of a picnic.
I prefer to shut my eyes and if it tastes good ...
But then again I do resemble a barrelThere is no intelligent life out there ... ask any goldfish!0 -
The worst thing I know about MacDonalds is the way they have mis-treated their staff in various countries, but most large corporations are evil, as stated earlier in the thread
It sounds to me as though you're contradicting yourself, you believe they have their facts wrong, but you couldn't ignore them, you just had to correct themBut if you are going to have a go at them get your facts right, otherwise you make yourself look like fools and everybody ignores you.
I think most people incorrectly imagine a cake factory to be very hygienic, whereas most people I know are reasonably aware that slaughtering livestock in an abbatoir is a messy businessAn abertoir isn't exactly my idea of a picnic.
I'm 100% in agreement with the point about if it tastes good eat it, that's why I adore foie gras and couldn't care less about force-feeding geese, but whether Mr Kipling products fit into the "tasting good" category is debatableThanks to all who post constructively.

It may be true that McDonalds food is not ethically produced. It is certainly true that it is not good for you. And the Johnny No-Stars at the till may well be on 99p an hour. But these are not the reasons I don't eat their stuff.
I don't eat their stuff because it tastes absolutely disgusting. Simple as that, really.0 -
just noticed brummybloke's sig:
"IF ANIMALS ARE NOT MEANT TO BE EATEN
WHY ARE THEY MADE OF MEAT?"
hmmmm...
so.... in theory... if humans are not meant to be eaten...

So why bother reading and posting on the topic? Do you think anyone cares whether you like McDonalds or not?

Last time I had the vouchers, I used a "free coffee" voucher. I think it was buy a breakfast and get a free coffee. Anyway, I ordered the breakfast and said I had a voucher for a free coffee which I presented and she checked it. She then asked me what drink I would like. Great, I thought. She's offering me a choice like they do with the meal deals. So I asked for hot chocolate (which is cheaper than coffee). "You can't have that" she said. "The coupon says coffee so that's all you can have". So why ask me then? What a waste of breath!. And she was the Manager. I had my coffee and it's fair enough, the coupon said coffee - I just don't see the point in them offering choices, just so that they can then say no!0
