Frozen Brussel Sprouts in Stew

I like sprouts in stews, but we're coming to the end of the sprout season. Anyone tried using frozen sprouts in stews? Are they ok, or do they taste, well crap. I often freeze portions so I'm not so sure about cooking something from frozen and then re-freezing it?

Comments

  • I found they turned to mush. But that's just me. Which was gutting, cos I'd love to eat them all year round.

Although maybe I over cooked them?

Nice to meet another sprout addict, we're a dying breed!!

I've found them to be okay if added at the very end.

As an absoolute fresh sprout lover, find bought frozen ones carp, and uneatable. Maybe home frozen ones better, but think the mush answer is nearer the mark.

If you freeze them yourself with only 1 minute blanching, there's virtually no taste difference. Ready frozen ones are horrible, so if you can do your own it's well worth it. I usually manage to fit two carrier bags in my freezer as we love sprouts too.
