I am asking this on behalf of my Mum, who has just ruined a new table cloth with ACE laundry bleach.
The cloth had a blob of blackcurrant on it, she poured a lot of ACE laundry bleach on it left it for about 20 -30 mins and where she poured the bleach has now gone yellow!
She has rinsed it in cold water, but there is still a huge yellow stain on it.
The table cloth is white cotton with pretty applique coloured flowers on it.
I can only presume that 20 mins is too long to leave Ace bleach on.
Any ideas how I can now remove the large yellow patch, which has ruined the table cloth?!!!
Many thanks, my Mum is so upset!

20 minutes is too long for any bleach..
IT may be the fibres are actually burned by the bleach in which case it is unlikely it will come out.. or it may just be dried on.. I'd try soaking the affected area overnight.. in just water.. or maybe a bit of salt.
Failing that . when there is a sun shiny day get it out in the sun.. direct sunlight is one of the best things for getting rid of marks!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I read that milk will neutralise bleach, so I soaked it over night in milk, but no luck, still bright yellow stain.

Hi Minnie, I too have magnaged to get similar patches on items of clothing (favourite t-shirt and a white cotton shirt). My suggestion would be to redye the tablecloth white. Try and get a white dye that can be used in a washing machine. sorry can't remember what the dye is called but I have done this with great success! Anyway, hope your Mum manages to salvage her lovely tablecloth

Just remembered that it was called Glo white super Whitener and it looks like this http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/invt/0095059, you coluld also try one of the Dyson fabric whiteners - either way quite cheap and easy to use.- definitely cheaper than buying new !0 -
Cant help I am afraid I just know that when you put ace bleach on you must wash it immediately.
Hope you can get it fixed.0 -
The damage is probably permanent but a google search turned up that RIT colour remover may be worth a try.
Is it possible to dye the whole thing maybe a pale yellow? Depends on the applique colours of course but if they are dark enough you might get away with it.0 -
You could try contacting the company/searching their website... bound to be many others who have done this before.0

i know this is an old post but I just wanted to make things clear should someone come across this thread.
When bleach is left on too long it causes damage to the fibres of the cloth, breaking them down. Once something is marked with bleach you CANNOT dye it as the damaged fabric will not take the dye. You will be wasting your time, I should know as I worked for Dylon clothes dyes for 5 years selling the stuff!0 -
I believe oxygen bleach is better for clothes as it does not take colours out0

How come polyester or nylon in clothes wont take dye when you want it to, and you end up with unwanted contrast stitching, yet just one accidental wash with colours dyes a white bra for ever? :rotfl:0 -
You need to get it into the washing machine on a hot wash about 60 and then add a good cup full of biological washing powder. It has to be bio and not non bio.
That should do the trick it might need a couple of washes this way but it should sort it out.Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:
