Quick question about a refund with receipt

Not sure of the answer to this one so I'd really appreciate a bit of advice
I bought a slushie maker for my son for xmas. Have only just got round to opening it and trying it out and it doesn't work. I do have the receipt so am I entitled to a refund from the shop I bought it from or will I have to send it back to the manufacturer? Just not sure whether time scales affect policies as I got it in November
Thanks in advance.

I think you'd only be entitled to a repair now, due to the time elapsed, but you should be able to get it done via the retailer. If you sweet talk them they might just replace it, depends on the retailer/member of staff.0 -
My little boy had a baby shower toy that my dad got him for xmas. I was in a similar situation, only got round to using it a few weeks ago and found it didn't work.
My dad had the receipt, he had also purchased this in november. Took it back to woolworths where he bought it and explained to the girl on the till that we had only just opened it and it didnt work.
No problems at all, she just asked if i would like a refund or to exchange it. I exchanged it for another which works perfectly. My little boy loves it !
If an item is faulty, there isn't a time limit in returning it, whether you have a receipt or not.
Hope this helps !0 -

Yes their is, its 6 months where a retailer states no garantee though most offer a year. Also if you dont have a reciept or proof of purchase, faulty or not they can refuse to help as no proof it was bought from them."Save the cheerleader - Save the world"0 -
That's great - thanks very much. Will take it back next week. I'm a bit of a suckler for keeping receipts, now I know why !:jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0

Just to add we bought a toy in the sale at Argos and it was only when it was given, some 8/9 months later we found it was faulty. Argos replaced it without any problem.Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves0

Your contract is wit the retailer, not the manufacturere, if they insist that you send to the manufacturer, refuse as the goods must be fit for purpose for a reasonable length of time. So, if you spend £18 on a food mixer and it breaks after a year and a half, it's tough. If you pay £98, you'd have a expectation that it would last longer & could claim a reasonable expectation that it would last say, two years.
After about 4 or so months, you would be able to get a replacement / repair"This is a forum - not a support group. We do not "owe" anyone unconditional acceptance of their opinions."0 -

yeh sorry your right, i was thinking of where i work. you wouldnt need a receipt as its obvious on the tag where it was purchased from. would be more difficult in the case of toys as you can get the same thing everywhere.
Always better to keep receipts !!:A0
