OS way to clean spa bath?

Hello fellow oldstylers!
I have recently moved house and we have a spa bath. However 3 of the jets have stopped working. I was told that you can buy tablet cleaners in Mr Ts (although i have looked and cant see it!). I was wondering if any of you guys may know of an oldstyle way to clean them. The jets cannot be removed so it would have to be something that i can use to add to a bath of water and then run the jets.
Nothing that bubbles up though! The first bath i had i added bubble bath and thought i would try out the jets - cue mountain of bubbles escaping not only from the bath but also the bathroom. :D

To be honest when I had one of these, I was recommended Milton tablets by a bathroom shop but I'm not sure that would unblock a jet. Is it blocked because of limescale buildup do you think?

You could try putting a bathroom plunger over the jet - I'm pretty sure I did that once. With the style of spa bath that was in the house I had to run the jet for a minute or two after emptying the bath to clear the water out or algae would grow (as I discovered when I went away for a month in a hurry).

Wonder if white vinegar / bicarb mix might do it, although I guess youd probably need a fair bit unless you can paint it on the jets

We have one in our house, a common one is the filter/pump being blocked on some models, you can usually access it by taking the bath panel off. Oh the vile black gooo that came out of ours because the house was empty a few months, bleurgh!! It's quite a faffy messy job so would advise to try cleaning the system first, get a plumber to do it if you are unsure.

You can get specific sanitizer tablets and cleansers http://www.bathroomexpress.co.uk/acatalog/24_pool_and_spa_chemicals.html many other places sell it.

Vinegar might also work, but because you would need a bath full of a decent solution, I wonder if it would be cost effective.

  • i had to clean my big spa bath out last month as we had not used it as a spa for a few months and my Dh used it and lots of gunk came out ( not at all nice) they way i did it was to flush it through i did it after his bath on full power and did the clean cycle then i detached the shower head and used the pipe against several of the wholes to flush it through lots came out this way i then poured soda crystals in to each of the flat holes in the bottom of the bath then filled to overflowing with white vinegar, left for about an hour or so then went through the process again with the shower hose, then i squirted cheap bathroom cleaner down every hole and left for 1/2 hour then did the shower hose again is now lovely all that above does take quite a bit of time or at least mine did as there are 13 holes in all
    Still Trying :o

Soda Crystals and boiling water poured down the holes. I do this monthly with my plug holes to clear any gunk.

Ah was thinking I'd seen dishwasher used somewhere. I think the most important thing would be to rinse through afterwards if you were using products not recommended.

i used to work at a plumbers merchants and we had a fully working spa bath and we used to fill it every day and add half a capful of the manufacturers bath foam, i say we but i mean me, one of the young lads who worked on the trade counter did it one day as a favour - i walked in later to find foam three foot high and about eight foot across creeping across the floor - it was like a foam party on ibiza lol, took ages to find the bath, turn it off and clean up (lots of fun though), lad confessed he read the instructions on the bottle and thought the makers were just being mean with the quantities!
