ex's bankrupcy - my inheritance

Hello

Not sure if posted in the right place please feel free to move.

Situation is me and my husband split a year ago, not divorced yet just seperated living seperately etc I havethe children he sees them weekly.

A couple of months ago a relative died and I inherited part of a house which is not yet sold.

We are currently in the processof sellingour marital home and won't get alot of equity back.

We have debts between us currently with a debt agency, he has said when the house is sold he will go bankcrupt.

What I want to know is where that leaves me, what happens to the joint debts..... will in in any way affect my inheritance?

When the inheritatd house is sold my debts will be paid off through the proceeds ofthe sale.

I am a regular in these forums but had to change my user name for obvious purposes.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

As far as i know if your ex goes bc and you have joint debts then you will become liable for them. As far as your inheritance goes that is yours and nobody but you can touch it, as long as you don't go bc, which if you did it would then become the OR's. Hope that helps.Dalip

    Welcome to the bankruptcy board.

Dalip is right if your other half goes BR then you are liable for all your joint debts.

The inheritance can't be touched as it is yours.

Has your ex taken professional advice from one of the debt charities about going BR. If you are still being civil to each other then it might be a good thing to make sure he does. Come to that it is probably a good idea if you talk to them to so you are armed if anything comes up (numbers in my signature.)
