  • As far as the microwave goes... have you checked freeecycle? The one I use is always giving away microwaves, as people like to change colour or upgrade.

I bought my saucepans brand new off ebay about 6 years ago they were only £10 from what I can remember, I know at the time I thought they will do till I can afford better ones and they are still going strong now, despite being bounced a few times:o
When they arrived they turned out to be quite heavy good qualtity ones not the cheap tat I was expecting:j

Microwaves can be bought for next to nothing these days eg cheapest one at tesco http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.100-5615.aspx
although woolies is quite cheap for these as well,

I wouldnt be without saucepans, good knives, measuring jugs, scales, wooden spoons, plastic potato masher (metal ones destroy my pans) and a couple of pyrex style dishes for making lasagne/pasta bake etc, grater, slow cooker, BM, chopping board (which doubles as a hot plate/tin stand) and a set of oven gloves LOL

Hi Marc great to hear that you are moving in soon. My one tip for buying a microwave would be to buy one with an acrylic lining NOT painted as in my experience the paint peels off quite quickly. Our latest, bought a few months ago from the Co-Op, is a Daewoo KOR-63MDC which cost about £40 and so far so good. It's not too big either which is what I wanted. HTH

I'd also add to the list an electric hand whisk of some sort if you're going to be doing any baking. Great for cakes etc and also for whisking egg whites. Also some cake tins....

and second the stick blender as well.

PS just spotted delia on this http://www.deliaonline.com/cookery-school/equipment/whisks-and-mixers,69,AR.html
didn't realise you could use the whisk for beating potatos...top tip!
