Dental Treatment, Antibiotics and Endocarditis

If you are one of the people who have previously needed a big dose of antibiotics an hour before dental treatment due to a heart valve problem, you may be interested to know that guidelines have changed.
It is now thought that dental treatment presents no significant risk of Bacterial Endocarditis, and, moreover, it is probably riskier to have a 3g dose of antibiotic. (Problems with allergy).
NICE have produced a guidance leaflet.

How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0 -

Patients with those heart conditions who need a camera shoved up their bottom still need antibiotic cover, so don't get rid of it all, but I suppose the hospital doing the shoving will sort out those prescriptions! How to find a dentist.

Ok all I can think of now is an old 'Brownie' camera!

The only prescriptions I've ever had for amoxil sachets have been from dentists, never had one from a hospital - though we do get lots of picolax prescriptions from them. We have twice daily deliveries anyway, so we get stuff in pretty quickly.0 -
