hi there, please could someone give me some advice. I have recently looked at my boyfriends credit file and found out he has a CCJ outstanding. Him and his ex grlfriend has some big debt problems but now we have managed to get them under control and they are not that far from being paid off. The CCJ is for £500.00 but we want to try and get a mortgage this year. He got the CCJ 5 years ago this September so I belive it will come off his file then??? He hasnt had any contact from the court (he didnt even realise he had it) Should we leave it till the end of the year and let it run out or should we pay it off? If we ignore it will it definately come off his record in September? thanks for your help x x

It is 6 years if you are in England but with a CCJ, the creditor can re-apply to the court if it hasn't been paid.

Is the ex paying it? maybe that's why they aren't chasing it. If you want the best mortgage deal - let it fall off the credit file first before applying. Otherwise you'll get the worst rate on offer depending who you apply with. The rate in the window is for Mr and Mrs squeaky clean, the debts only £500 but they could use that or a 3 quarter percent difference and that a lot of cashola over the years xx0
