Short term illness/employer harrassment

  • Get a doctors note if you are off work for more then 3 days-if you go to the hospital, you can go to your GP and tell him what's happened.

I was in a similar situation to you a couple of months ago and I have since resigned from my job due the the HARASSMENT I got from my manager.

Needless to say after seeking advice, I politely told her that she was not entitled to the document and told her she wasn't getting it!

I was off sick and I provided a doctor's note within 2 days of absence (as sat and sun there is no posting facilities) but I sent the docs cert and a letter recorded next day delivery. My manager demanded more information than she was entitled to-she wanted a letter that was given to me by my GP referring me to HOSPITAL as an urgent case as an out patient. My manager demanded to see that document as if she thought I was being dishonest-or at least that's how it felt, and the problem I was suffering with caused me deep distress and upset and it was just horrible so I know how you must be feeling.

Amicus is a very good union for support on this and I would urge you to consider joining. They are there if you need them.

Some employers will try and bully you into providing information that they are not entitled to, I think some are just bloody nosey !!!!!!s to be honest.

Depending on what you are saying is wrong with you....no-one can force you to go to hospital but to cover your back, ask your GP to backdate your sick note-I did to cover my absense from day 1 and they did it for me so don't worry.

Hope you get it sorted though as I know what it's like and I wouldn't wish the way it makes you feel on anyone!

Can you see (caller display) when it is your employer who calls? If so you can ignore the call. If it is an unknown caller you can ignore it too. I had the service from BT which did not allow anonymous numbers to get through - it was great. (This was to stop getting calls late at night about "problems" that others couldnt deal with)

Thanks for the advice guys. If they ask me for something I know they arent entitled to I just tell them to f**k off (in a nicer way of course). The only problem with ignoring the phone is that they come round as it says they can in my tenancy agreement (guess who my landlords are. But thats for another thread). Im a member of GMB but that feels next to pointless in this place with such low membership (probably less than 1%) and they arent allowed on site either. Too much trouble aparently. Shows how good this employer is.lol. But its a job I love and its a sacrifice I make.
