I think my famliy and I might become homeless

My partner took out a joint mortgage 2 years ago without my knowledge. It was a fixed rate for 12months and then went up to 10% and that is interest only! This has plunged us into debt due to not being able to afford to pay the mortgage. My partner took out a series of high interest loans to make meet living expenses. I have been in litigation now for about 7months. Worse still this mortgage was taken out to cover the tracks of the previous mortgage also attained illegally. I have now paid £9,000 in legal costs which includes a fee of £2,500 for a handwritting specialist to confirm that the signed paperwork is not my signature. My lawyer states something about a legal mortgage even if I had not signed but if I knew about it, which I didn't.
Not a clue where this will lead but I am considering options such as renting but I am having trouble with this. The last estate agents I spoke to wanted 12months rent up front! I am in a higher income bracket which I think rules out council/housing associations. I have also been told that they would consider my case as self inflicted also.
I'll consider anything for me, my partner and children but even though I can afford rent I seem to be put in the position where I cannot afford the advance payment (15k!)
All the other debts are in control, I am on a DMP with CCCS. My debts amount to £40K. P.S. I have considered selling the house but there is not enough equity to clear all the debts and the mortgage plus another loan charge means I have about 6% equity.
I am still with my partner and wish to stick together as a family. I feel partly to blame as I did not see the signs or provide support. My partner attempted suicide and was also in ITU for a week on life support and this was the worst thing ever that I have experienced. My partner and children are having councilling.I know I need councilling but I am trying to keep everyone together and I know if I went for councilling that this would shake the foundations of the family strength.

hi, didn't want to leave without saying anything! I don't have any answers for you but I'm sorry to hear about your troubles. Taking counselling is not admitting weakness and may indeed help you through this stressful time. Best wishes to you and your family x0

Hi there
Well done for posting, sounds like you've had quite a bit of a time of it. I'm sorry about the problems with your partner, but congratulate you on standing by them and wanting to keep your family together.
Can I suggest that you actually re-post this on the Debt-Free Wannabe board as well? You will get some great practical mortgage advice here, and the DFW board will be able to help in the debt situation, and cutting down on finances, and you will find people who have been in a similar situation to you.
I don't have any mortgage advice, I'm afraid, but if you copy and paste this to the DFW board, with your Statement Of Affairs (all your incomings and ALL your outgoings per month) then you'll get some great advice on cutting down which might be able to help you out without considering losing your house.
Best wishes
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
